This is a design to renovate and upgrade buildings 52, 53, and 54 for better earthquake resistance that Professor Katsuo ANDO originally designed on the Nishi Waseda Campus. These buildings are historically important buildings on this campus with their layered pentagon-shaped classrooms. With this in mind, I proposed a design that would improve the environmental performance and traffic flow inside the buildings better. Getting rid of the existing louvers on the east, west, and south sides of the buildings and using concrete side walls, I put eaves made of aluminum with longitudinal louvers on a transom in order to prevent direct sun light from entering the buildings. The ceilings in the classrooms were renovated to allow for the installation of new air-conditioning equipment. Finally, the stairwell cores were renovated and I painted each of them differently in order to make each building easier to differentiate from the others.
