A renovation project for Tsukikage elementary school in Joetsu City, Niigata prefecture, that at the time of this project was closed down. Students from four universities, Mari WATANABE laboratory at Hosei University, Ko KITAYAMA laboratory at Yokohama National University, Satoko SHINOHARA laboratory at Japan Women's University and my laboratory at Waseda University, designed this facility together.
Without changing the overall spaces within the elementary school, we rearranged the teachers’ office on the first floor into a dining room, the principal's office into a VIP room, and the school infirmary into a bar. In addition, we rearranged the classrooms on the second floor into short term hotel-like accommodations. Even after major renovations were completed, students from these four universities have continuously been making small changes and minor renovations to the third floor of the school into an exhibition space displaying everyday artifacts and articles used in that city.
