This facility is the core of the town area center revitalization project in front of Chuo station on the JR Chuo main line. Chino Cultural Complex’s characteristic is that various different functions can be spatially and operationally integrated, enabling fluid and coordinated use, which was difficult before. A gentle slope containing a library and other community functions extends directly from the station overpass towards a common lobby around which 2 halls, large and small, and a museum are arranged. We aimed to create a facility where, should time and circumstances permit, even the common lobby or hall can be repurposed for any function so it would be possible to plan for more than a set area size, and where local residents and tourists, from young to old, future visitors with various objectives can positively stimulate each other. The project was completed through repeated discussions and workshops held by the town residents’ planning committee all throughout the planning, construction and opening preparation stages.
